Q. Am I eligible for services?
A. All adults age 18 or older are eligible to receive self-directed
Career Services Center services without eligibility or residency
requirements. Additional services are available to individuals who
qualify. Attend an Orientation for more information.
Q. How do I get started with Employers' Training Resource?
A. By attending an orientation at any Career Services Center.
Q. How do I arrange to attend an orientation?
A. Call Career Services Center at 325-HIRE or toll-free at 1-800-334-5670 to get the times and place
of a center near you. You will need to arrange your own child care for those 2 hours
as this orientation is done in a group.
You may complete a reading/math
exercise at the end of the orientation.
Q. What do I bring to orientation?
A. You do not need to bring anything with you in order to attend
Orientation; you will receive all the supplies you need at
this informational session. However, if you use eye glasses,
please remember them.
Q. What if I've already attended an orientation?
A. If you have attended orientation within the last six months, you do not need to
attend again until that 6 months has expired.
Q.
How old do you have to be to go into training?
A. At least 18 and out of school. If you are under 18, you
should talk to
your counselor at school
or contact one of the youth providers to see if you qualify
for services.
Q. What are the requirements for training?
A. Program entry requirements are discussed at the orientation and
vary depending upon the training program. In addition,
opportunities are subject to change due to funding changes.
Q. Do you provide child care?
A. We do not provide child care for Orientation. We may be able to help you
with child care while you are in training classes. Talk to your career advisor
about this
once you are scheduled to begin training.
Q. Do I need to have a driver's license to go into training or
get a job?
A. Some training programs, such as auto mechanics and welding, require a
California Driver's License as do many of our job openings. However, we do have training and jobs that don't require one.
Q. Can I get into training if I am receiving disability, worker's
compensation, or
SSI?
A. The only way to determine if you are able to receive training is
by attending Orientation first. You will need to be released by your doctor to attend training AND return to work.
Q. Will beginning training affect my unemployment insurance
benefits?
A. It is up to the Employment Development Department to make that determination.
You should call the Employment Development Department and ask for information
about California Training Benefits.
