through funding provided under the Workforce
Investment Act.
All youths ages 14 and older are welcome to utilize
the Resource Rooms in any of our Career Services
Centers. Services available here include information
about job openings, access to internet job banks, use
of computers, phones and fax services, as well as
typing tutorials and certificates.
More comprehensive services are available to youths
who qualify and meet various eligibility requirements.
These services are offered in three basic categories
described below:
In-School Youth programs are aimed at helping youths who are currently enrolled in High School to stay in school, improve academic performance and earn a High School diploma. Additional activities help these students develop the work-readiness skills needed to succeed in the workplace and often provide career awareness and mentoring as well opportunities to participate in paid and unpaid work experience at real or simulated job sites.
In-School Youth programs are operated by ETR /CSC partner agencies including local school districts as well as other public and private agencies.
Out-of-School Youth-Only Program, (ages 16-21)
Out-of-School Youth programs are aimed at helping youths who are not currently enrolled in High School who would like to earn a High School diploma or G.E.D. and/or develop the life and work-readiness skills needed to succeed in the workplace, but who are not ready, or perhaps old enough, to enroll in the adult Occupational Skills Training programs offered via the Career Services Centers. Many Out-of-School youth programs offer paid work experience placements and/or incentives to help participants earn money as they learn. Some programs focus specifically on the needs of youth who are “aging out” of foster care to help them make a successful transition to independent living. <br>
Out-of-School Youth programs are operated by ETR/CSC partner agencies including local school districts as well as other public and private agencies.
Adult Occupational Skills Training Programs (ages 18-21)
Youths ages 18 and older who are not enrolled in High School may enroll in the adult Occupational Skills Training programs offered through the Career Service Centers if they meet applicable eligibility and other requirements. Adult Occupational Skills Training programs may be the right choice for young adults who are ready for full-time, permanent employment but need vocational training in order to begin a career. Youth candidates who are interested in vocational training will be asked to participate in a 10-day Youth Assessment Workshop which will cover topics such as employer expectations, how to dress for an interview, completing applications, resumes and Career Assessment to help them choose a training program that matches their interests and abilities.
