The Mary K. Shell Mental Health Center is accessible during and after normal business hours as an alternative to more restrictive care facilities such as a hospital. The crisis stabilization unit offers 24 hour services including crisis intervention to prevent hospitalization, assessment and referral to other mental health services, psychiatric evaluation and monitoring, and other services to those in need. |

Kern Medical is a 222 bed acute care teaching hospital owned and operated by the County of Kern. The health of the citizens of Kern County is a priority to Kern Medical, and it is the only hospital dedicated to physician resident training. KMC provides care for over 16,000 inpatients annually, while the clinics provide care and services for over 100,000 patients; the Emergency room experiences 43,000 visits per year. |
